On Wednesday 18th April, HMP Law partner lawyer Chan Sik Ahn delivered a lively and informative presentation about cryptocurrencies and Korean laws and regulations to an audience of 13 diplomats and embassy staff from Belarus, the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy and New Zealand.
The lunchtime briefing covered topics from the legal definition of cryptocurrency, the legal status of cryptocurrency exchanges, how an initial coin offering (ICO) could legally be held in Korea, as well as tax and other related issues. At the end, Mr. Ahn provided an overview of likely future Korean legislation to regulate the cryptocurrency space.
At the end of the presentation, there was a question and answer session, and attendees also spoke about the legal situation in their home countries.
